About Magazines 2020
The Magazine publishing industry is struggling to deal with the biggest upheaval in it’s history. New technology, changing reading habits and a shifting commercial landscape have left magazine editors wondering what the next 10 years will bring.
Magazines 2020 is a blog about the future of editing in the Magazine sector. If we could see to the end of the next decade we would know exactly how to adapt to the changes tearing through the industry today. Unfortunately, the best we can do is note developments as they happen and try to imagine where we might end up.
My intention in writing this blog is to chronicle developments in Magazine publishing from the editor’s perspective, to report the impact these are having on our role and to report strategies for taking Magazines forward.

About Me
My name is Peter Houston and I have worked in B2B publications almost all my life. I started out like most business or trade editors re-writing press releases and have worked every editorial position, offline and online, since. I even left a couple of times, once to sell advertising and once to work in legal services, but hated both and came scurrying back.
Currently I am Editorial Director for Advanstar Communications in Europe. In the past I have covered technical and consumer electronics, telecoms, export trade, social care and gaming in my time as a writer and editor.
I have an MBA from Liverpool University, with my dissertation focusing on obstacles to the adoption of e-commerce by SME publishers in the UK.
